The fears expressed by many citizens have focused on the risks that this agreement poses to fundamental rights. To respond to these fears, it was important to ask the Court of Justice of the EU to rule on the compatibility of the agreement with the European Treaties, and in particular with the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
