"I voted in favour of this report aimed at rejecting the conclusion of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) on behalf of the EU. The ACTA is an important trade agreement which addresses commercial-scale counterfeiting and online piracy by coordinating global enforcement of existing copyright violation laws. However, the ACTA text is insufficiently precise as regards the measures to be introduced against individuals, the definition of ‘commercial-scale’, the role of Internet service providers and the possible interruption of the transit of generic medicines. The benefits of this future international agreement are therefore far outweighed by the potential threats to civil liberties."@en1
