"Mr President, at this time, many things have been said.
Commissioner, I should personally like to express my most heartfelt thanks. Thanks to your stubbornness, your craftiness with regard to procedure, you have given us the opportunity to prove how important Parliament is as colegislator.
Thank you, Commissioner, for having driven hundreds of thousands of citizens out into the streets to protest and 2.8 million people to sign petitions. They have discovered that democracy is played out here, that European elected representatives are the representatives of the people, their representatives.
Thank you again for the millions of Internet users who have followed the debates and the votes in committee and who are still following us today. I would like to welcome them. It is a breath of fresh air in our institutions, which are all too often perceived as technocratic.
Thank you, Commissioner, but in democracy, there is also another principle. It is the fundamental principle, the principle of responsibility. Tomorrow, we will take responsibility and I should like, tomorrow, to be able to thank you for also taking responsibility for your failure, the failure of your working method."@en1
