"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, the serenity with which Mr Moreira has just clearly expressed the thoughts of many of us should lead us onto the right track: here in Parliament, we are not discussing the freedom of those who use the Internet, we are not discussing civil rights, an issue that we all share, as we have demonstrated over many years of battle. We are defending the right of consumers not to be deceived by counterfeit goods, by drugs that lead to death or illness rather than to good health. We are trying to get rational thought from a Parliament which, unfortunately, seems to be under pressure from lobbies of large associations which, through the Internet and the sale of illegal products, have now become super rich and are conditioning the market. We have been told that there are millions of young people in Europe who fear there will be less freedom on the Internet. Let us reassure them that it is not so, their freedom will be the same, but those who attempt to use the Internet for unfair business practices to the detriment of the community will be penalised."@en1
