"Mr President, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) does not protect us against dangerous counterfeit medicines with ingredients that have been manipulated, because ACTA is not concerned with the content of the pills, but only with the packaging. Instead, ACTA makes accessing effective generic medicines more difficult. The people whose lives and health depend on affordable generics have not been asked whether they would like to vote in favour of ACTA or whether they prefer not to have it at all. If we take the interests of these people into account in tomorrow’s vote, then there is only one route for us to take. We must vote against ACTA."@en1
