"Mr President, introducing ACTA in order to combat free downloading is like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Allowing Internet providers to do checks on Europeans with an Internet connection – almost all of whom have one – is madness, surely! We do not need to be checked, do we, while doing a spot of surfing!
I would like to invite those who say that we need to agree to ACTA in order to protect artists and their livelihoods to come and talk to us about other forms of making money through art, because that is one answer to the problem, an answer now, an answer in 2012, as opposed to just blocking ACTA.
I said only a minute ago that counterfeit medicines – and generic medicines are counterfeit medicines – save lives in developing countries. We should not be working against that."@en1
