"I voted for the report on the trade aspects of the Eastern partnership. Concluding and implementing association agreements, including Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (DCFTAs), is a priority aim of the European Neighbourhood Policy regarding the Eastern partners. I welcome the efforts made towards strengthening the Eastern partnership, especially the Commission’s initiatives on SMEs, including the facility granted to SMEs based on the Eastern partnership. I think that the main benefits which the EU will gain from implementing the DCFTA will be more stable and predictable trade. For example, Ukraine is the EU’s largest Eastern partner and the DCFTA opens up a new market of 46 million consumers for the EU. I should stress the importance of Moldova continuing to align with the EU its energy infrastructure and systems for technical regulation, standardisation, conformity assessment, testing and market surveillance. I welcome the Commission proposal on the multiannual financial framework 2014-2020, proposing a 40% rise in the funding available to the European neighbourhood policy. Our Eastern partners cannot bear the costs of legislative harmonisation and the necessary institutional and structural reforms by themselves, and EU financial support should complement their reform efforts."@en1
