"For the majority of the European Union’s neighbours, in other words, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, the EU is the main export market and the main source of imports. Therefore, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area is the most important and most effective instrument at our disposal for strengthening our trade links. The gradual dismantling of trade barriers and regulatory convergence in areas that have an impact on trade are rightly included in this Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. Beyond the economic aspect, free trade areas can be a core component of a wider political agreement, leading, in particular, to an association agreement. The rapporteur also stresses that, with the signature of agreements and the creation of the free trade area, the European Union might also provide its assistance and strengthen the role of civil society or even steer reforms, both in the public and private sectors. My vote in favour of the Ransdorf report applauds its social and democratic goals, which are fundamental aspects of our partnerships."@en1
