"The creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the EU is, for our partner countries, one of the main incentives to pursue their reforms. It in fact represents one of the most ambitious tools of EU bilateral trade policy for achieving a stable, transparent and predictable economic environment which respects democracy, fundamental rights and the rule of law. This would provide not only for greater economic integration by a gradual dismantling of trade barriers but also for regulatory convergence in areas that have an impact on trade in goods and services, in particular, by strengthening investment protection, streamlining customs and border procedures, and reducing technical and other non-tariff barriers to trade. Taking into account the fact that greater trade integration requires significant short-term and medium-term efforts by our Eastern partners, I voted in favour in order to create favourable political and regulatory conditions for the development of trade relations with eastern countries."@en1
