"I voted in favour of this report on the implementation of association agreements with the Eastern partnership’s trading partners in order to establish a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. As China’s impact on European trade is growing and Russia continues to engage in protectionist policies, the EU’s European Neighbourhood Policy with Eastern partners is one of the Union’s priority aims. I believe that the prospect of creating Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas (DCFTAs) with the EU is one of the greatest ambitions of EU bilateral trade policy for fighting tendencies towards protectionism at global level. The development of Eastern partnership trade is essential for avoiding regional conflicts in future, which lead to economic isolation. The development of trade relations with the Eastern partners is therefore important not just economically; its impact covers issues relating to the development of democracy, the rule of law and common EU principles. I believe that in the long term, the benefits of integration should compensate the Eastern partners for the efforts they have made."@en1
