"Six ex-USSR republics – Ukraine Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia – are associated with the European Union within the framework of the Eastern partnership. The main objective of this partnership is to support these countries in the pursuit of a democratic transition to avoid conflicts in the region, by opening up some areas of the single market. I supported the recommendations for each country, which differ in accordance with the democratic progress and respect for the principles of the rule of law in each. We have called for Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas whilst introducing the ‘more for more’ principle, a new concept which creates a link between political progress on the road to wide-ranging democratisation and economic liberalisation of trade."@en1
