"The most serious tax issues that Europeans face in cross-border situations are discrimination, double taxation and difficulties in claiming tax refunds and in obtaining information on foreign tax rules. I agree with the rapporteur, who believes that tax coordination should be an integral part of a growth strategy and that the Euro Plus Pact is correct in emphasising the importance of tax reforms.
Regarding corporate taxation, I, too, think that a Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base will contribute to addressing some serious fiscal obstacles to growth in the single market which create disincentives for investment in the EU. Therefore, any strategies for boosting the EU’s attractiveness to foreign investors should be based on an assessment of achievements and deficiencies related to completion of the internal market."@en1
