"I voted for the report from Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou because I think that, during the current economic and financial crisis, it is vital for us to focus our attention on attracting the largest volume possible not only of foreign investment, but also of local investment in the European Union. I think that investment in training for workers, promoting the entrepreneurial spirit and encouraging a favourable environment for small entrepreneurs are key elements in terms of the EU’s ability to attract foreign direct investment. I would like to highlight the need to ease the administrative burden faced by small and medium-sized enterprises as part of the process of accessing European funds. At the same time, developing and encouraging public-private investments and the effective use of structural instruments for promoting economic recovery are crucial to attracting and retaining foreign and domestic capital in the European Union. However, we cannot talk about attracting investment in Europe without considering the creation of a climate conducive to investment through sustained economic growth. Consequently, rules need to be applied guaranteeing both fair competition and a fair competitive environment."@en1
