"I voted in favour of this text because water is the most vital and most important of public goods. Managing it sustainably is vital to ensure that all ecosystems receive a sufficient quantity of good quality water, enabling our society and economy to function properly. The EU’s water strategy has enabled enormous progress to been made, but improvements are still possible. Data collection should thus continue to be encouraged and improved if we want to achieve a better understanding of how water circulates within our ecosystem. Furthermore, the issue of water should be mainstreamed into all EU policy areas. Finally, it is essential that we include water-related topics (rainwater systems, water pollution, water saving and metering technologies, monitoring, and so on), among the areas in which research and innovation are strongly encouraged."@en1
