"Intellectual property rights are the most valuable instrument at the EU’s disposal for supporting innovation, which, in turn, is a basic priority in the EU 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. Piracy and counterfeiting are expected to cost European businesses EUR 250 billion a year, which naturally has a massive impact on jobs and growth in the Member States. This proposal for a recast regulation, which I supported, attempts to improve legislation on intellectual property rights, especially the application of Regulation (EC) No 1383/2003, in line with new challenges, such as online sales of imitation goods."@en1
