"Economic growth and employment in the EU partly depend on the effective enforcement of intellectual property rights. As well as having an economic impact, counterfeit goods can pose a real threat to the health and safety of EU consumers. In order to tackle this phenomenon, customs authorities are in a comparatively good position to enforce intellectual property rights at external borders, before the goods enter the internal market. This is why I supported the Creutzmann report. It establishes procedures enabling customs authorities to prevent the movement of goods which they suspect of infringing intellectual property rights."@en1
