lpv:translated text	"A single European railway area should continue to be our objective since having more than 20 national signalling and speed-control systems, which are not compatible with each other, greatly restricts the sector’s development and railway transport’s competitiveness vis-à-vis other means of transport. To achieve this single area, I believe that two elements are vital. I am referring in this case to the regulatory body and to the key functions of the infrastructure manager. In the long term, I think that a European regulatory body should be created to supervise cross-border transport. To lay the foundations for such a body, a network of national regulatory bodies needs to be set up which must become trusted entities that can take quick, effective decisions. With regard to the infrastructure manager, this person’s key duties should also include the development of the network as he or she is more familiar with the requirements of the entire sector."@en1
