"Mr President, I was happy to back this report as well. It stands to reason that there should be cooperation between regions where conditions are similar.
Mr President, my esteemed colleague, Ms Yannakoudakis, expressed her disapproval at the fact that there is a Baltic strategy, a Danube strategy and now a Mediterranean strategy. I am sorry to disappoint her, but we hope to have an Atlantic strategy soon as well.
For me, it makes sense, because if there are shared synergies, then there should be shared policies. This way, we can coordinate better and get better results for our people, particularly in relation to the sea, and not just in terms of fishing. We are also looking at the potential of marine energy – which is very important – and the growth of marine tourism, which is a great opportunity for us to get out of the economic crisis and to grow jobs, etc., within the European Union."@en1
