Implementing a well-devised macro-regional strategy offers a number of benefits, including coordinated investments and greater involvement from the EU’s intervention mechanisms. Consultations establishing the problems on the ground must be used for devising macro-regional strategies. I am in favour of drawing up a road map for European macro-regions and I believe that the funding must come from the territorial cooperation area of the cohesion policy. We certainly need to ensure, at the same time, that the money is not lost through fraud and corruption. I would like the successful strategies which have been deployed in the Baltic macro-region and which are now being devised for the Mediterranean to be implemented in the Danube macro-region, too, which also includes my country, Romania."@en1
