"The PIP breast implants scandal is a disgrace. Almost 90 000 women in the European Union fell victim to this scandal. Parliament had a duty to react and that is why I voted for this resolution on PIP breast implants, which expressly calls for strengthening the quality of controls by certification bodies and improving the traceability of breast implants in order to guarantee safe, regulated operations for women. We have, in Parliament, a duty to protect the interests of European citizens, and the health of those citizens must therefore undeniably be our priority. The health of our fellow citizens should no longer be endangered by a lack of medical controls, or put at the mercy of one man’s greed, a man who is now being accused of ‘aggravated fraud’ and ‘manslaughter’."@en1
