"The PIP breast implants scandal – which broke in March 2010 – has brought to light the serious malfunctions in European health safety. These tragedies are forcing us to carry out an in-depth review of the functioning of the European and national bodies responsible for health matters. Parliament’s reaction is in line with the gravity of the scandal: the resolution, which I voted for, calls for greater cooperation between Member States and greater control measures for medical devices placed on the market. This is an ambitious resolution in my view, as it also calls on the Commission to consider a system of pre-market authorisation for certain categories of medical devices."@en1
