"European company law is key to completing the internal market and the evolution and growth of cross-border trade and the integration of the markets, business models and the current situation itself mean we need to apply a clear and transparent legal framework for the natural development of the business environment. Company mobility within the single market is a prerequisite for increasing European competitiveness and for our emergence from the profound crisis we are currently experiencing. I would therefore congratulate the Commission on the initiative it has launched on the future of European company law, which seeks to simplify the business environment for companies by reducing unnecessary administrative obstacles and ensuring protection for the interests of creditors, shareholders, Member States, members and employees. I now hope that these initiatives will have the desired practical effect, and that they will act as a further incentive for the internationalisation of companies, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises."@en1
