No substantial changes are needed to the proposed directive on control of major-accident hazards. In my opinion, however, there are three areas which require more emphasis. Firstly, the key to prevention is ensuring that inspections of industrial installations are carried out regularly and reliably. Secondly, in my opinion, natural risks which also lead to major industrial disasters are underestimated. Thirdly, the safe transport of dangerous substances should be covered in the directive."@en1
