"Mr President, this debate on ‘Towards a job-rich recovery’ actually highlights the philosophical difference between the state interventionists on the left and those on the right who believe in markets and a more liberal approach to economics.
Those on the left believe that they simply use more taxpayers’ money to create artificial jobs with the state, but they also want as many people on welfare as possible so, when it comes to elections, they can knock on people’s doors and say ‘if you vote for the parties of the right not only will you lose your job but you will also lose your welfare’.
Those of us on the right believe that what you need to do is create the right conditions for growth: get governments out of the way of markets; get governments out of the way of entrepreneurs and allow them to create real sustainable jobs – not jobs dependent on governments spending more taxpayers’ money than they have actually got and getting themselves into debt, but the creation of real sustainable jobs in the private sector so that they can then pay their taxes."@en1
