"Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, the aim of the Single Market Act is to make the market work for citizens again and to bring them and the market together, whilst recognising that an efficient single market can and must give rise to growth and sustainable job creation. Yet, the content of the recent legislative proposals and communications from the Commission show that its concerns are still predominantly focused on the promotion of trade to the detriment of measures aimed at employment and citizens.
Some major issues are absent, namely: the promotion of good-quality jobs and rejection of social dumping, safeguarding the social protection model and public services, the portability of social and retirement rights, consumer protection in financial services and the right to collective redress. Parliament must remind the Commission that citizens want and need an innovative Europe that is able to create growth, protect them and also restore their confidence. The resolution that we will adopt tomorrow must send a strong signal in this direction."@en1
