That has already caused unnecessary human suffering, fed armed conflict, instability, terrorist attacks and corruption, compromised peace processes, good governance and socio-economic development, and led to the overthrow of democratically elected governments and violations of the rule of law, human rights and international humanitarian law. For the above reasons, I voted for this resolution calling for the July 2012 negotiation of a legally binding international arms trade treaty to mark an historic step forward, through greater transparency and accountability, by establishing the highest international standards and criteria for making assessments of decisions on the transfer, import and export of conventional arms."@en1
