Greater visibility also means greater accountability and the need to report regularly to Parliament on this especially sensitive subject. I support this initiative. Appointing a Special Representative for Human Rights will enable the EU human rights strategy and the associated action plan to be implemented more effectively, by formulating recommendations, by stepping up dialogue with third countries, international, regional and non-governmental organisations active in this sector, by fostering overall coherence in EU action on human rights, and by integrating this dimension across all areas of the Union’s external action.
