"On 12 April 2012, members of the armed forces forcibly seized power in Guinea-Bissau and held both the interim president, Raimundo Pereira, and the prime minister, Carlos Gomes Júnior. This illegitimate action occurred the day before the beginning of the electoral campaign for the second round of the presidential elections in Guinea-Bissau and the military coup was widely condemned by the international community. I join in condemning the unconstitutional seizure of power by the armed forces of Guinea-Bissau on 12 April 2012. I reject the establishment of the self-styled ‘Military Command’, ‘Transitional National Council’ and ‘Transitional Government’ and do not recognise the self-appointed military and transitional institutions, while also urging the international community to act likewise. Furthermore, I join in calling for an end to violence and the intimidation of political leaders and civil society."@en1
