lpv:translated text	"Japan has been identified by the Commission as one of the EU’s strategic partners. High-level discussions between the EU and Japan have been in place since the beginning of the 1990s but have not, to date, yielded conclusive results. The sectors identified as being of common interest for the Commission and the Japanese authorities are sensitive for European industry and for French industry. That is why I voted in favour of this resolution, which calls on the Council not to authorise the opening of negotiations until Parliament has stated its position on the Commission’s proposed negotiating mandate. I believe that Parliament must have the right to scrutinise the content of these negotiations."@en1
