"Unfortunately, the strengthening of budgetary surveillance by the Commission has proved necessary. I therefore support the Commission’s proposals. These should contribute to a timely correction of excessive deficits. However, I am opposed to the other elements that have been inserted in the Ferreira report: eurobonds, a redemption fund, a growth facility of 1% of gross domestic product and the financial transaction tax. That is the reason why I cannot agree with this report.
The Gauzès report confines itself to the actual topic in that it increases surveillance of Member States in financial difficulties. As far as this report is concerned, I object to the weakening of the involvement of the International Monetary Fund in determining the sustainability of public debt. That is an essential element and, for that reason, I will abstain from voting on this report."@en1
