"I voted in favour of the Fernandes report on the mobilisation of the European Union Solidarity Fund. Since 2002, the EU Solidarity Fund has come to the aid of victims of natural disasters. It is a concrete expression of European solidarity; it was recently used to help the Italian region of Abruzzo, which was struck by a severe earthquake in 2009. Today, we have once again decided to support Italy, which experienced major floods in Tuscany and Liguria in 2011. Aid of EUR 18 million will therefore be released to help inhabitants, businesses and the affected regions to repair the damage incurred."@en1
