"I voted in favour of this report as I feel that the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund ought to be mobilised to grant financial aid in response to the application submitted by Spain. The aim of this proposal is to support the reintegration into the labour market of the Spanish workers made redundant in the wake of the global economic and financial crisis. The redundancies in the Comunidad Valenciana region were caused by the radical change in the geographical distribution of footwear production and relocation of manufacturing to third countries. As a result of the rise in imports and fall in exports of footwear within the EU, the number of manufacturers in Spain has dropped by 36%. In addition, 188 footwear manufacturers closed down in the Comunidad Valenciana region. Against this backdrop, I wish to highlight the need for the financial assistance offered by the EU to be made available as quickly and efficiently as possible. I should also stress how important it is to improve the vocational training for these workers, as well as to acknowledge their capabilities and skills."@en1
