"Madam President, I think things are clear. Equal pay is not merely a goal, and it is not just a goal for the Member States but clearly for the whole European Union. It is stated in the Treaties.
Many legal, judicial, supervisory, sanctioning and educational measures have been proposed, and they are in the report. We cannot tackle the pay gap if we do not address another gap, which is the shared responsibility men have in their private lives as well.
We cannot address the gap in the public sphere if we do not also organise society so that we men take on our responsibilities in our private lives and thereby guarantee that women can have access to a public and working life on the same terms. This aspect is crucial if we truly want to implement these measures from a political, legal and sanctioning standpoint. This is a preliminary measure, but it goes hand in hand with this debate."@en1
