lpv:spoken text	"Mr President, currently, the average EU citizen generates about six tonnes of waste. This is clearly unacceptable and I support measures to encourage more recycling and reusing. Nevertheless, we have come a long way. In the UK, 40% of household waste is recycled, compared to 11% ten years ago. The rapporteur has made some useful suggestions, but his report contains some impractical recommendations such as the general ban on landfill waste. The rapporteur wants all Member States to introduce a landfill tax. This House needs to learn that taxation is not the solution to every problem. I believe our resources should be managed in an environmentally sound manner. However, we need to set realistic targets with a gradual transition away from landfill. These decisions, more importantly, need to be made at Member State level."@en1
