"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, the current particularly long-lasting structural crisis shows that here in Europe, we need to find new opportunities for sustainable growth. The open economy is growing and new, above all, sustainable jobs can be created by a resource-efficient economy. We need to deal with some areas to which we have not devoted sufficient attention in the past, such as the growing global population and the accompanying increasing food consumption, as well as sustainable management of our ecosystems.
I therefore support the calls for sustainable and resource-efficient management of food consumption, natural resources and materials. I would also mention that this needs to be supplemented with control and transparency, but also with detailed explanations to our citizens. Our citizens are prepared to make an active contribution. National and local politics must do the same. I would also like to thank Mr Gerbrandy for his report."@en1
