"Mr President, it is indeed good that the north and south are meeting again for official negotiations because, as we know, poverty and need know no borders. Unfortunately, the organisation has had to put its activities in North Darfur on hold, despite having been highly successful in its activities there since 1985. The country’s own population is unjustifiably bearing the brunt of resentment against western aid – or to put it bluntly, against Christian aid. Radical Islamism in the north, shaky administration in the south, proxy wars by so-called tribal warriors and finally, the egotistical interests of various countries such as China in the exploitation of its natural resources, are keeping peace from this tormented region. The conclusion is therefore clear and should be that Europe must take on an active, leading role in this region."@en1
