"Mr President, the European Union has been committed for many years to resolving the conflict in Sudan. It is worth noting that the EU supported the division of Sudan and the creation of South Sudan. The EU has spent, and continues to spend, hundreds of millions of euro on humanitarian aid. Nevertheless, the conflict continues, and it is a cruel conflict. This was previously a conflict with terrible consequences, with hundreds of thousands of victims within a single country, and now the conflict is an international one. This raises the question as to whether the EU should continue to play an active role, and whether it should do so as an independent entity. I believe that the EU should continue to play an active role. However, I think that much greater emphasis should be placed on UN support, and especially on African Union support. If peacemaking troops are deployed, they should be mainly from the armies of African countries."@en1
