"In Paris in November 2010, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) made certain amendments to the multiannual recovery plan for Eastern bluefin tuna. The history of bluefin tuna fisheries management is complex and EU legislation in this area is very extensive. Eastern bluefin tuna fisheries are the most regulated in the EU, and perhaps even the world. The EU and its Member States spend enormous amounts on ensuring compliance with these regulations, and there can be no doubt that this has resulted in significantly better compliance with the legislation.
The situation today is significantly better than it was even a few years ago. In common with the rest of my group, therefore, I voted in favour of adopting the report in the form approved by the Committee on Fisheries, which quite rightly does not include the rapporteur’s amendments."@en1
