"Mr Martin, I believe that China’s membership of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) is a good thing; it would be a mistake to have China outside the WTO, because matters would become much more complicated.
Besides, the battles fought by the Commission, among others, within the WTO through various disputes – such as that on raw materials – have been very effective and satisfying. Furthermore, the WTO can certainly also be relied upon as regards various anti-dumping procedures. That does not mean, however, that we can lower our guard when it comes to granting China market economy status, on the one hand, or, on the other, that we should not exploit our own provisions, such as reciprocity, to demonstrate a firmer stance."@en1
