"The citizens’ initiative introduced by the Treaty of Lisbon is a tool for participatory democracy, which involves citizens in decisions and actively helps to establish the political agenda through a shared path towards stronger European integration. Being able to present the initiative in a public hearing with the direct participation of the relevant parliamentary committee helps to strengthen our dialogue with European citizens, at a particularly difficult time for the solidity of the economy and for consolidation of political Europe. The times we are living in are characterised by the development of Eurosceptic movements, which is why I believe that the initiative is an important step to bring European citizens closer, even physically, to the EU institutions. For this reason, I voted in favour of the amendment to the Rules of Procedure."@en1
