lpv:translated text	"On 15 December 2010, the European Parliament adopted at first reading the report in the proposal for a regulation on the citizens’ initiative. The citizenship initiative will be an important instrument available to European citizens and has the objective of conferring on them the same powers of political initiative as enjoyed by the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament. In particular, the intention is to provide citizens with a means of being heard, enabling them to submit certain issues of interest to the European institutions. This initiative will complete the direct ties existing between the citizens and the institutions. The European Parliament will be able to contribute to realising these objectives, making use of all the means available to it to support citizens’ initiatives, particularly public hearings. I am voting for this report for those reasons."@en1
