Issuing low-value banknotes in place of the current coinage would enhance the perception of the value of money and would probably improve its usage. We should remember that, in the context of a crisis like the one we are facing, the recession in many Member States is also characterised by a lack of confidence in our European currency and by a rise in consumer prices.
