".
I voted for the European Union’s internal security strategy, given that the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon has consolidated even further the area of freedom, security and justice in terms of respect for fundamental rights and the different legal systems and traditions of the Member States, and that policies in this area are a shared competence between the EU and the Member States, in accordance with the provisions of the Treaty. In fact, the Treaty of Lisbon has provided EU security policy with a strong foundation governed by a rule of law specific to the EU, thereby laying the basis for developing a security agenda closely shared by the EU and its Member States, and subject to democratic scrutiny at European and national level."@en1
