"This is the fourth resolution during the current mandate which the European Parliament has used to display its concern about the state of human rights in Ukraine. A year ago, on 9 June 2011, we were already sounding an alarm bell about the selective nature of the judicial inquiries being conducted into the former prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, and some of the members of the government that she led. Unfortunately, we are obliged to return to this topic and call once again on the Ukrainian authorities to demonstrate transparency and impartiality in the proceedings against Yulia Tymoshenko. As a member of the Council of Europe, Ukraine must comply with the judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union. The European Parliament has expressed its support on countless occasions for Ukraine’s integration into Europe. Achieving such a goal requires more than the Ukrainian people wanting integration. Political leaders in Kiev also need to act in a manner appropriate under the rule of law. I firmly believe that if Ukrainian politicians demonstrate political will, they will succeed in having the association agreement with the European Union adopted, which we would all like to see implemented."@en1
