"I have voted in favour of this resolution for several reasons. First of all, because I think it is fundamental to ensure that plant and animal varieties and essentially biological processes for the production of plants or animals shall not be patentable. Secondly, I am satisfied to see that patenting processes that come from genetic engineering are protected. Thirdly, I see that the resolution includes provisions to ensure that patenting doesn’t hamper innovation and further research. In this sense, giving support to exclude breeding processes from being patentable is a step in the right direction."@en1
