"Following the presentation of the European Court of Auditors’ annual report for the financial year 2010, the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control carried out the financial audit of the European Union general budget in respect of the Committee of the Regions as part of the 2010 discharge procedure. The Committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure and verify that the Community budget is implemented in a regular and efficient manner. In its 2010 annual report, the Court of Auditors identified errors in relation to the recruitment of a permanent member of staff and a procurement procedure for interpreting services. The Committee of the Regions provided satisfactory explanations to questions regarding the errors identified and took immediate measures to prevent such errors from reoccurring in the future. In the interests of enhanced transparency, it is important for declarations of financial interests of members of all institutions to be made accessible on the Internet, and to be updated regularly. The discharge report found that the financial audit had been completed properly and that the inspection had revealed no major deficiencies. At its meeting in late March, the Committee decided to grant discharge and to close the accounts for 2010.
