"Following the presentation of the European Court of Auditors’ annual report for the financial year 2010, the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control carried out the financial audit of the European Union general budget in respect of the European Court of Auditors as part of the 2010 discharge procedure. The Committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure and verify that the Community budget is implemented in a regular and efficient manner. The report found that in order to enhance the efficiency of the Court of Auditors’ activity, as high a percentage of the Court’s officials as possible should be performing audit tasks exclusively. The auditors primarily examined whether financial operations had been properly recorded and disclosed, as well as legally and regularly executed and managed, so as to ensure economy, efficiency and effectiveness. The discharge report found that the financial audit had been completed properly and that the inspection had revealed no major deficiencies. At its meeting in late March, the Committee decided to grant discharge and to close the accounts for 2010.
