"Within the framework of the partnership and cooperation agreement (PCA), the European Community and the government of the Russian Federation concluded an ‘Agreement on trade in certain steel products’ in 2007, and set quotas. However, as you know, Russia recently joined the World Trade Organisation (WTO), after almost 20 years of negotiations. We therefore no longer need to impose steel import quotas, particularly as keeping these quotas in force would constitute a violation of the WTO rules. That is good news for the international community, including the European Union itself. Indeed, the Commission estimates that additional European exports of iron and steel products will be worth approximately EUR 107 million per year."@en1
