"I support this report because – although the decentralised approach to aid delivery brings decision making closer to local realities – there is still considerable room to improve coordination among donors. The Agenda for Change acknowledged the need to enhance harmonisation among the EU, Member States and partner countries, as well as to coordinate development activities and increase their efficiency and effectiveness. Indeed, the recent reorganisation within the Commission has not yet generated the expected results in the overall coherence of EU development assistance. For this reason, the evaluation of the results of the Commission’s interventions in the field should be improved. It is also vital for the Commission to consider promoting local consultation when deciding on aid projects. In addition, I totally agree with the need to stress that neither the Commission nor the Member States should use the current economic crisis to justify a ‘doing more with less’ approach."@en1
