The recent wave of arrests of political leaders, as well as the dire humanitarian situation of more than 300 000 refugees and displaced persons, requires strong condemnation. I voted for this resolution, and I join the international condemnation of the military coup and the suspension of the country’s republican institutions. I believe that sending an EU election observation mission to monitor the upcoming elections would constitute a first step towards political stability in the country. I also hope that the EU will remain in close contact with the new interim authorities in Mali in order to define concrete assistance in all the different fields where it is needed."@en1
